Underlying Neurology
The following is a brief explanation of the neurology behind Motor Praxis to inform your Clinical Reasoning
Lesions in the following areas should be red flags to potential impairment (Gillen, 2009):
o Lesions in the left hemisphere may result in bilateral ideomotor apraxia,
o Lesions of the corpus callosum or right premotor area may result in unilateral ideomotor apraxia on the left side.
o Lesions in the prefrontal and premotor cortex and the left inferior parietal lobe may result in ideational apraxia.
o Lesions in the left hemisphere may result in bilateral ideomotor apraxia,
o Lesions of the corpus callosum or right premotor area may result in unilateral ideomotor apraxia on the left side.
o Lesions in the prefrontal and premotor cortex and the left inferior parietal lobe may result in ideational apraxia.
